Comfortable Surgical Care

Calgary Wisdom Tooth Services

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, often lack the necessary space to emerge properly, leading to impaction, crowding, or painful pressure. Our team specializes in the gentle removal of these teeth to protect your surrounding molars and maintain the alignment of your smile. By addressing wisdom teeth early, we can prevent future complications such as cysts, gum infections, and damage to adjacent healthy teeth.

We understand that the idea of oral surgery can be intimidating, which is why we prioritize a supportive, stress-free environment. Utilizing advanced digital imaging, we precisely plan your extraction to ensure the procedure is as efficient and minimally invasive as possible. Whether you require local anesthesia or a more relaxed sedation option, we are committed to making your recovery smooth and your experience comfortable.

Preventive Oral Surgery

Do I Need Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

While many wisdom teeth are removed preventatively during the teen years, adults may also require extraction if these molars become symptomatic or impacted. Recognizing the signs of potential issues early can help you avoid sudden pain and more complex surgical needs down the road.

Signs You May Require Wisdom Tooth Removal?

If you notice swelling, redness, or a dull ache at the back of your jaw, it may be a sign that a wisdom tooth is struggling to emerge or is partially trapped. This can lead to a condition called pericoronitis, where bacteria become trapped under the gum tissue, causing recurring infection and discomfort.

Even if they aren’t painful, emerging wisdom teeth can exert significant pressure on your existing molars, causing them to shift or become crowded. Removing these teeth protects the investment you’ve made in your smile’s alignment and prevents damage to the roots of your healthy second molars.

Freqently Asked Questions

The Answers You Are Looking For

We understand you may have questions before or after your appointment, so we’ve compiled a list of our most common patient questions. If you don’t find the answers you need below, our team is just a phone call away to provide you with the information you’re looking for.

While it varies, the ideal age is often between 17 and 25. At this stage, the roots are not fully formed, and the surrounding bone is less dense, making the extraction easier and the recovery faster.

You won’t feel any pain during the surgery itself. We use local anesthesia to completely numb the area, and for many patients, we also provide I.V. sedation to ensure a deep state of relaxation.

Most patients experience the most significant healing within the first 3 to 5 days. You should be able to return to normal activities, such as work or school, after about 48 hours, though complete gum healing takes a few weeks.

Stick to soft foods for the first few days, such as yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and smoothies (but don’t use a straw!). Gradually reintroduce solid foods as your comfort level improves and the extraction sites heal.

Using a straw creates suction that can dislodge the blood clot in the extraction site, leading to a painful condition called dry socket. It’s best to avoid straws and vigorous rinsing for at least one week.

Even “silent” wisdom teeth can cause issues. They can be difficult to clean, leading to decay in neighboring teeth, or they may be impacted and pushing against other roots. A proactive exam can determine if they are a threat to your future oral health.

That depends on your preference and the complexity of the case. We offer everything from local freezing to full I.V. sedation. We will discuss these options with you during your consultation to find the best fit for your comfort level.
